Chaotic Chess
Chaotic Chess is a 3D game of chess with a twist. Every four moves, a new rule is added that changes the game.

This game was part of the Brackeys Game Jam 2024.2, I was in a team of 9. out of the 1,500 submitted games, including ours. Chaotic Chess was placed 302nd in the overall rating with a placement of 26th in Innovation.

It took the team 1 week to develop the game.
My Involvement
I was Credited as the Artist for this game.

However, at the early stage, I did more than make art for the game. When we figured out what kind of game we were making, I started considering adding rules for when the game changed. So, I created a list of additional rules and categorized them from small changes to major late-game changes. Most of the rules ended up in the game.
When making the game, I was doing art.
the first thing I've made is the 2D chess pieces, originally planned for the '2D chess pieces' rule that I thought of, but eventually was used for the minimap.

these assets would later be used for the background of the Itch Page, as pieces scattered on a red carpet.

Next, I made the game title, which was my most creative and challenging part of the project, instead of my usual software tools I used to make the title, I decided to make the title more 3-dimensional, so I used Unity to create the title.
I first created a draft of different titles, with everyone thinking the 4th title being great, but it needs to be chaotic. so someone drafted a title for a better title and I decided to replicate it.

With the 3D assets already made and imported into the game project, it was a great opportunity for me to include them for the game title, so I created a separate scene solely for the game title and placed some assets into the scene, beforehand, I used Paint to make the words, separating 'Chao', 'tic' and 'Chess and placed the in different places in the scene, lastly I used a sphere asset with a black material to create the wrecking ball. all before putting a green screen in the background so it's easier to make the title with a transparent background.

This scene would later be repurposed to become the game title, with the chess pieces being animated, thanks to someone in the team to make it happen.
(Note: the drafted design wasn't made by me, it was made by someone in the team)
Once I made the 3D image into 2D, I then finalized it on Paint.Net, where I added explosions in the background, shadows on the game title a chain for the wrecking ball. the image on the left is the result which is used for the game title.

Overall, I am happy with the game title, one of the best I've made so far. very pleased to be part of the jam with a very creative and skilful team with great ideas and great communication.
